Medan, July 23, 2026 – In commemoration of Indonesia's National Children's Day, the Community Service (PkM) Team from the Undergraduate Architecture Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), conducted an interactive educational program at TK Dina Islamic School. The activity was held under the theme, "Introducing Medan's Landmarks to Young Aspiring Architects: Our City's Architecture is Truly Amazing!"

The children were introduced to several of Medan's iconic architectural landmarks, including Maimun Palace, Al-Mashun Grand Mosque, the Tirtanadi Water Tower, and Pos Bloc Medan. The educational session was complemented by a coloring activity, allowing the children to explore the city's architectural heritage through a fun and engaging learning experience suited to their age.
The program was led by a team of young lecturers from the FT USU Architecture Program, consisting of Ar. Selly Veronica, S.T., M.T., IAI as team leader, Ar. Masita Hanjayani, S.T., M.Ars., IAI, Ar. Alifa Azzahra Nasution, S.Ars., M.T., IAI, Ar. Novi Rahmadhani, S.T., M.T., IAI, and Dwi Debora Sitanggang, S.Ds., M.T. Undergraduate Architecture students from FT USU also participated in facilitating the activities.
By combining visual introductions with creative, hands-on activities, the program provided children with an early learning experience about architecture and the urban environment. Ar. Selly Veronica, S.T., M.T., IAI emphasized that architectural and environmental education should ideally begin during early childhood, when curiosity and awareness are developing. In the long term, the initiative is expected to foster a greater sense of pride in and appreciation for the city of Medan among young learners.
Through this community service initiative, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, reaffirms its commitment to making architectural education accessible to the wider community from an early age while encouraging greater awareness of architectural heritage and the sustainable development of urban environments.
