The Undergraduate Program in Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, held a public lecture as part of the Integrated and Contextual Architectural Design Studio Course (ARS4128) on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Undergraduate Program in Architecture, FT USU. The activity involved the Regional Development Planning, Research, and Innovation Agency (BAPPERIDA) of Tanjungbalai City as a teaching partner.

The public lecture was attended by the Head of the Undergraduate Program in Architecture, FT USU, Dr. Ar. Wahyuni Zahrah, S.T., M.S., IAI, and the Head of BAPPERIDA of Tanjungbalai City, Mariani, S.Si., M.Si., along with other BAPPERIDA representatives.

The public lecture was aimed at providing students with an initial understanding of the context of the area, policies, and development directions of Tanjungbalai City, as well as the potential and issues of Pulau Buaya as a basis for the design process.

As part of the teaching collaboration, the Tanjungbalai City Government, through BAPPERIDA, stated that it would facilitate surveys as well as FGD 1 and FGD 2 as part of the learning and discussion process. The series of activities is expected to support student research and master plan development.

This activity primarily supports SDG 4—Quality Education through learning based on real-world cases and strengthening students’ academic experience. The activity is also relevant to SDG 11—Sustainable Cities and Communities through discussions on area planning, as well as SDG 17—Partnerships for the Goals through collaboration between higher education institutions and local government.
