Medan, August 20, 2026 — The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), attended the Open Senate Academic Session held as part of the 74th Dies Natalis of Universitas Sumatera Utara at the USU Auditorium. The event carried the theme “Listening to Science for Global Impact,” reflecting on the role of science in generating broader contributions and impact.

USU Rector Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., delivered the Rector’s Report as part of the Open Senate Academic Session. Jenderal Polisi (Purn.) Drs. Agus Andrianto, S.H., M.H., Minister of Immigration and Corrections of the Republic of Indonesia and Chair of the USU Board of Trustees, as well as H. Surya, B.Sc., Vice Governor of North Sumatra, also delivered remarks.

Maman Abdurrahman, Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia, attended as the keynote speaker and delivered a scientific oration.

The activity primarily supports SDG 4—Quality Education by strengthening academic culture, institutional reflection, and the orientation of science toward meaningful contributions by the academic community. Its additional relevance to SDG 9—Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure is reflected in the theme’s emphasis on science as a foundation for contribution and global impact, with further impacts remaining potential.

Through its participation in the 74th Dies Natalis of Universitas Sumatera Utara, FT USU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening education, research, and innovation that are relevant to societal needs. The Faculty continues to encourage the responsible application of knowledge to support sustainable development and expand the benefits of the university’s tridharma.
