Medan, July 8, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held a meeting with its Waste Management Consultant Team to discuss waste management issues within the faculty. The forum highlighted waste management as a strategic priority requiring dedicated planning and coordination at the faculty level.
The meeting was attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., Dean of FT USU; Prof. Dr. Ir. Fatimah, M.T.; Dr. Ir. Bambang Trisakti, M.Si.; Prof. Dr. Ir. Tulus Burhanuddin Sitorus, S.T., M.T., IPM.; and Muhammad Safril, S.T., M.T.
The discussion provided a platform to examine the waste management challenges faced within the faculty and explore potential approaches to address them. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to serve as the basis for developing more systematic waste management strategies, supported by recommendations and follow-up action plans.
The initiative is primarily aligned with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, as it focuses on addressing waste management issues and identifying opportunities to improve waste handling practices. This alignment will be further strengthened through the development of detailed recommendations regarding waste sources, management methods, expected outcomes, and implementation plans.
