Kuala Lumpur, July 25, 2026 – Four lecturers from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU) participated in the 2026 IEEE International Conference on Innovation, Ethics & Emerging Tech in Engineering and Computing Education (IEEE IE2C 2026). Their participation formed part of the Universitas Sumatera Utara EQUITY Program and was supported through funding provided by the program.
The participating lecturers were Dr. Ir. Soeharwinto, S.T., M.T.; Dr. Ir. Naemah Mubarakah, S.T., M.T.; Muhfi Asbin Sagala, S.T., M.T.; and Ryandika Afdila, S.T., M.Eng.Sc. Each presented their respective research papers at the conference. In addition to serving as a presenter, Muhfi Asbin Sagala, S.T., M.T. also served as a session chair, moderating presentations, managing the session schedule, and facilitating discussions and question-and-answer sessions.
IEEE IE2C 2026 adopted the theme "Future-Driven Learning: Innovation, Ethics & Technical Excellence." The conference covered a wide range of topics, including embedded systems, the Internet of Things (IoT), edge intelligence, innovations in engineering education, simulation-based learning, smart electronics, microelectronics, sustainable energy, and the development of technologies that emphasize ethics, inclusivity, and societal benefit.
The immediate outcomes of the participation included the international dissemination of FT USU lecturers' research and active involvement in managing scientific sessions. Knowledge exchange throughout the conference also provided opportunities to gain valuable feedback, broaden academic perspectives, enrich teaching materials, and expand professional networks with participants from various institutions. However, no formal collaborations or follow-up initiatives had been established at the time of reporting, and therefore these potential benefits cannot yet be considered measurable outcomes.
This participation primarily supports SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the dissemination of research and discussions on engineering innovation and emerging technologies. It also contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by enhancing knowledge that can strengthen teaching and learning, and to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering international academic networking and collaboration.
The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to strengthening its culture of research, scholarly publication, and participation in international scientific forums. By supporting knowledge dissemination and expanding global academic networks, FT USU continues to promote responsible innovation while advancing the quality of education and research in support of sustainable development.
