Medan, July 24, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), held a meeting with the Medan Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Center (Balai K3 Medan) as an initial step toward exploring institutional collaboration in the areas of education, research, community service, and the enhancement of occupational safety and health competencies.
The delegation from Balai K3 Medan was welcomed by Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU, together with Dr. Eng. Ir. Listiani Nurul Huda, M.T., IPU.
During the meeting, both institutions discussed a range of collaborative opportunities that could be developed based on their respective expertise and institutional capacities. The proposed areas of cooperation include academic teaching, joint research, and community engagement, particularly in waste management and the implementation of occupational safety practices.
The discussion also covered potential collaboration in field assessments and testing, occupational risk and accident mapping, as well as the development of basic and general Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) professional certification programs. These initiatives are expected to strengthen partnerships between higher education institutions and technical agencies while providing programs that are closely aligned with the needs of industry and the workforce.
The meeting further opened opportunities for the shared utilization of academic expertise and institutional facilities. Through well-structured collaboration, research outcomes and technical knowledge have the potential to be applied in support of improved workplace safety, environmental management, and the development of human resource capacity.
The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, remains committed to expanding partnerships with government agencies, industry, and professional institutions. Through collaborations built on shared expertise and practical needs, FT USU continues to advance education, research, community service, and the implementation of sustainable occupational safety and health practices.
