Medan – October 12, 2026, the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), organized a socialization activity on the Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) and introduced 14 updated quality standards as part of its ongoing efforts to improve the quality of higher education.
The activity involved Prof. Dr. Ir. Rosdanelli Hasibuan, M.T. (Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs); the Heads and Secretaries of the Quality Assurance Groups; and members of the Quality Control Groups from study programs within FT USU. The forum served as a coordination platform between quality assurance representatives at the faculty and study program levels.
The activity aimed to strengthen the understanding and commitment of all academic stakeholders to consistently, systematically, and sustainably implement a quality culture within FT USU.

During the socialization, updates to the quality standards were presented, covering the three main areas of the Tridharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service. The 14 standards serve as references for the implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of academic and non-academic activities within the faculty.
The implementation of the updated quality standards is expected to improve the quality of the learning process, strengthen a culture of innovative and impactful research, and promote community service activities that are relevant to community needs and developments.
In addition to introducing the updated quality standards, the activity emphasized the importance of implementing the PPEPP cycle (Establishment, Implementation, Evaluation, Control, and Improvement) as the main foundation of the Internal Quality Assurance System. Through this cycle, every work unit is expected to conduct continuous evaluation and improvement to ensure that established quality standards are achieved.
The socialization also provided an opportunity to strengthen coordination, establish a shared understanding, and increase collective responsibility in realizing accountable, effective, and quality-oriented higher education governance.
Through this activity, FT USU reaffirmed its commitment to continuously developing a sustainable quality culture, supporting the achievement of excellent accreditation, and enhancing the institution's competitiveness at both national and international levels.
With the implementation of the 14 updated quality standards, FT USU is expected to be better prepared to address the challenges of higher education while producing quality graduates, research, and community service initiatives that provide tangible benefits for development.
This activity primarily supports SDG 4 – Quality Education through strengthening the higher education quality assurance system. SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions also receives support through improvements in institutional governance, documentation, and accountability.
