On Friday, May 8, 2026, a Geotechnical Seminar was held at the Hall of the Faculty of Engineering, USU. The event was officially opened by Prof. Dr. Ir. Rosdanelli Hasibuan, M.T. (Vice Dean for Education, Student Affairs, and Alumni Affairs of the Faculty of Engineering USU) and was also attended by Ir. Muhammad Agung Putra Handana, S.T., M.T. (Vice Dean for Administration, Finance, Human Resources, and Academic Infrastructure), Dr. M. Ridwan Anas, S.T., M.T. (Head of the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Study Program), Ir. Irwan Suranta Sembiring, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. (Chairman of the Committee), as well as several other lecturers from the Civil Engineering Study Program, namely Dr. Ir. Ika Puji Hastuty, S.T., M.T., IPM., Ir. Titi Hayati, S.T., M.T., Dr. Ir. Rahmi Karolina, S.T., M.T., IPM., GP., and Vreslisawati Sagala, S.T., M.Sc.
The Geotechnical Seminar carried the theme “Implementation of Geotechnical Principles in Foundation Design and Construction Control” and featured Dr. Ir. Aksan Kawanda, IPU (Trisakti University, HATTI, Principal of Geotech Efathama) as the keynote speaker. The seminar also invited representatives of Civil Engineering Student Associations from several other universities, including Medan State Polytechnic, State University of Medan, Medan Area University, Panca Budi Development University, HKBP Nommensen University, Al Washliyah University, Al-Azhar University, Santo Thomas Catholic University, and Prima Indonesia University.
The seminar provided insights into fundamental geotechnical principles and their application in foundation design, field investigations, and soil testing for foundation design, foundation construction control and performance monitoring, as well as case studies on the implementation of geotechnical principles in construction projects.
