USU Chemical Engineering invited Ir. Rahmat Syafruddin, VP Production of PT Badak NGL, for a guest lecture on "Gas Treating and Liquefaction." The online event was enthusiastically attended by students.

The Department of Chemical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), in collaboration with the USU Alumni Association for Chemical Engineering, held a guest lecture on Saturday, November 7, 2020. The online lecture was attended by students enrolled in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Processing Technology course. The guest speaker was Ir. Rahmat Syafruddin, M.T., IPU, an alumnus of Chemical Engineering USU who currently serves as the Vice President of Production at PT Badak NGL.


The event began with an opening speech by Ir. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering USU and the course supervisor. During the lecture, Ir. Rahmat Syafruddin presented a topic titled "Gas Treating and Liquefaction." He shared his academic and career journey and discussed topics such as General LNG Processing, Gas Purification, Fractionation, Refrigeration, Liquefaction, and Storage & Loading. PT Badak NGL, where he currently works, is the largest natural gas processing company in Indonesia and one of the largest LNG refineries in the world. Located in Bontang, East Kalimantan, the company operates eight processing trains capable of producing 22.5 million metric tons of LNG per year, contributing significantly to Indonesia's GDP in the oil and gas sector.


Following the presentation, a Q&A session was opened and enthusiastically received by participants. Several students had the opportunity to ask questions, which were directly addressed by the speaker. Despite being held online, the event was expected to provide valuable insights for participants in understanding the subject matter more deeply.
