On Wednesday, February 20, 2019, the Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara held a guest lecture in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT). The theme was "The Application of Engineering to Factors Determining Transportation Safety in Indonesia." The lecture aimed to help students of the Faculty of Engineering understand the importance of transportation safety and to learn how and why accidents occur through the identification of weaknesses in safety systems, thereby preventing similar incidents in the future and prioritizing standardized transportation.
The guest speaker for this event was Dr. Ir. Soerjanto Tjahjono, Chairman of the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT).
During the lecture, Dr. Ir. Soerjanto Tjahjono shared his expertise on identifying and preventing accidents and provided examples of past transportation accidents in Indonesia. He also recounted his personal experience in building boats.
The lecture was attended by 130 students and 15 faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara. The participants were highly engaged and enthusiastic about the presentation delivered by Dr. Ir. Soerjanto Tjahjono, as evidenced by their attentiveness throughout the session.
The event concluded with an award presented to the guest speaker by Dr. Ir. M. Sabri, M.T., IPM, Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara.
This guest lecture demonstrated Universitas Sumatera Utara's commitment to enhancing the quality of education that aligns with industrial and workforce demands, in line with the university's tagline, "Toward Excellence as University for Industry."
