HIMATEK FT-USU organized a blood donation and health check event themed "Donate Blood to Save Life" on February 28, 2019. This activity, in collaboration with PMI, was attended by students, lecturers, and staff from USU Chemical Engineering.
The Social and Community Service Division of HIMATEK FT-USU for the 2018/2019 term organized a blood donation and health check event themed "Donate Blood to Save Life" on February 28, 2019, at the M Lecture Hall of the Chemical Engineering Department, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU). HIMATEK collaborated with the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) for this event. Several lecturers and staff members from the Chemical Engineering Department at USU also participated, showing their support for this noble cause.
Blood donation is a positive activity that can only be performed by individuals who meet specific criteria. The benefits of donating blood for individuals include:
Reducing the risk of heart disease, blood vessel disorders, and cancer.
Supporting weight loss.
Detecting serious illnesses.
Students flocked to the M Lecture Hall of Chemical Engineering USU to participate in the event. However, not all were eligible to donate blood due to not meeting the required standards. The initial step for prospective donors was to fill out a form provided by the organizers, followed by health checks such as blood pressure measurement, hemoglobin testing, and blood type identification. Participants who met the eligibility criteria then proceeded to the PMI bus for blood collection. After donating blood, each participant received a small package containing milk, tea, and snacks to replenish their energy.
For the health check, only students born in 1997 or later were allowed to participate. Participants could also consult PMI staff regarding their health results, common health complaints, and solutions to address typical health issues.
This event is seen as a tangible contribution from USU Chemical Engineering, reflecting the students' care for their surrounding community. The event also received positive feedback from the participants who took part in it.
