The prototype car designed by the Horas Team from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), is ready to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Asia 2016. As part of their preparation, the vehicles, named Prototype G7 and USU G8, were showcased during the “Grand Launching of Energy Efficient Vehicle” event at the USU Pavilion.
“These seventh and eighth-generation vehicles are planned to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) Asia on March 3–6, 2016, in Manila, Philippines,” said Horas Team Advisor, Himsar Ambarita, as quoted on USU’s official website, Wednesday (12/9/2015).
The General Manager of the fourth-generation Horas Team, Teguh Imam Widodo, stated that the team aims to introduce an innovation rarely achieved by Indonesia. The Prototype G7 was developed with a new ignition system designed for higher fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the USU G8 is an urban concept car, akin to a city car commonly used today, with a lighter and more efficient transmission system.
“This vehicle is targeted to cover a distance of up to 2,000 kilometers using just one liter of ethanol fuel,” Teguh said.
The event also saw the presence of USU’s Acting Rector, Prof. Subhilhar, Ph.D., who expressed his support for the Horas Team’s participation in SEM Asia 2016. “We hope the team prioritizes teamwork and prepares thoroughly for the competition, including both mental and physical readiness,” he stated.
The Horas Team has previously achieved remarkable results in the same competition. In SEM Asia 2014, they secured first and second places, and in 2015, they earned second place in the Ethanol category.
