Universitas Sumatera Utara held an inauguration for four Professors, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., from the Faculty of Engineering; Prof. Mohammad Basyuni, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Forestry; Prof. Dr. Humaizi, M.A., from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences; and Prof. Dr. dr. Kiking Ritarwan, Sp.S(K)., M.K.T., from the Faculty of Medicine. The inauguration ceremony took place virtually on December 17, 2020.
During the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., delivered her inaugural speech titled “Eutectic Solvent Technology and Integrated Palm Biodiesel Production Technology with Palm Micronutrients (Carotene and Tocopherol-Tocotrienol) as an Alternative Solution to Boost the Growth of the National Biodiesel Industry.”
In her speech, Prof. Renita explained that enzymatic biodiesel production has the potential to serve as an environmentally friendly process and as an alternative in biodiesel production. Eutectic solvent technology and palm biodiesel production technology integrated with palm micronutrients (carotene and tocopherol-tocotrienol) can serve as alternative solutions to boost the growth of the national biodiesel industry. This technology is expected to reduce total production cost margins and produce biodiesel with a competitive selling price compared to petrodiesel. Furthermore, this innovation has the potential to stimulate the growth of the national biodiesel industry.
