Industrial Engineering Fair 2023 (IE FAIR 2023) is an annual event organized by the Industrial Engineering Student Association (HIMTI) under the Knowledge Development Division.
IE Fair was initiated by Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Industrial Engineering students with the aim of collaborating with their peers in Southeast Asia. Additionally, the event seeks to share knowledge and enrich insights into industrial engineering. IE FAIR has been running for eight years, and in 2023, it marked its ninth edition.
The event series includes the Industrial Engineering Paper and Action (INPACT) and a National Webinar. INPACT features paper selection, industrial knowledge testing, and case studies in factories. Papers address current issues, presented by INPACT finalists, followed by case studies in relevant companies. The evaluation, conducted by professionals in the field, assesses the participants' critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The theme for IE FAIR USU 2023 is Agroindustry.
Agroindustry involves the interconnected activities of production, processing, transportation, storage, financing, marketing, and distribution of agricultural products. Economic growth in the agroindustry sector is crucial, as it significantly contributes to a nation's economy. However, with population growth projections and the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in November 2019, agricultural productivity and national income have declined.
The agriculture sector's contribution to Indonesia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020 was 13.70%, a 0.99% increase from the previous year. Agroindustry improvements during the disruptive era have the potential to positively impact GDP. Therefore, innovations, research, and developments are needed to support sustainable farmland and increase productivity.
From all registered participants, the top 10 teams with the best papers advanced to the Finalist Presentation round on March 16, 2023. This round determined the winners, including the Best Presentation and Favorite Video categories, with a total prize of 1,000 USD:
The winners were announced after the National Webinar on March 20, 2023. The webinar aimed to provide insights on Implementation of Agroindustrial Innovation and Research to Support SDGs in the Era of Disruption, delivered by expert speakers.
This year's National Webinar attracted approximately 800 participants, including students and the general public.
