Civil Engineering lecturers from USU, Prof. Dr. Ing. Johannes Tarigan and Ir. Makmur Ginting, M.Sc., attended the Integrated Coordination Team Meeting for Flood Control in Medan City initiated by the Governor of North Sumatra on July 23, 2019.
As a follow-up to the Governor of North Sumatra's Decree No. 188.44/411/KPTS/2019, the Provincial Government of North Sumatra held an Integrated Coordination Team Meeting on Flood Control in Medan City and its surroundings on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. This meeting, conducted at the Raja Inal Siregar Hall of the Governor's Office, marked the official kickoff of flood mitigation efforts in the region. It was attended by the Governor, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Medan, as well as academics and civil engineering professionals.
Representing Universitas Sumatera Utara, Civil Engineering lecturers Prof. Dr. Ing. Johannes Tarigan and Ir. Makmur Ginting, M.Sc., contributed their academic and technical insights during the discussion. Their involvement demonstrated USU’s commitment to supporting government initiatives through science-based strategies and engineering expertise. The agenda included role clarification, work program planning, and discussions on key technical matters, with the aim of building stronger collaboration between the government and higher education institutions in addressing long-term flood resilience.
