Medan, August 19, 2026 — The Institute for Research and Community Service of Universitas Sumatera Utara (LPPM USU) conducted a site visit to the Integrated Waste Processing Facility in connection with the 2024 Strategic/Thematic Research project entitled “Design of a System and Research on Derived Products and Commercialization Potential from Domestic Waste Processing at USU toward Zero Waste.” According to an LPPM USU letter, the site visit was scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. local time.

The activity was attended by the Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU and the Head of the Center of Excellence for Science and Technology (PUI-PT) for Waste Management, USU Circularity Center, Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.; Head of the Undergraduate Program in Environmental Engineering, Dr. Amir Husin, S.T., M.T.; Yasmine Anggia Sari, S.Si., M.T.; Dr. Eng. Ir. Taufiq Bin Nur, S.T., M.Eng.Sc.; Director of the Directorate of Scientific Writing, Publication, and Publishing, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Irvan, M.Si.; and representatives of LPPM USU.

The activity included discussions and an on-site review of the waste processing facilities. The participation of representatives from the faculty, study program, and LPPM provided an opportunity to directly examine the facility and the implementation of research related to domestic waste processing and its development toward a zero-waste approach.

The site visit primarily supports SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production through the development of waste processing systems and approaches toward zero waste. It is also relevant to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through research on derived products and the strengthening of waste processing facilities as part of an innovation ecosystem.
