The Capstone Design Project Program has once again been conducted by the Mechanical Engineering Program this year. Participants of Capstone Project I and II undergo a two-semester program worth 4 credit hours. In the first semester, students develop ideas and design machine concepts in a proposal, and in the second semester, they transform their designs into prototypes. The project is carried out in groups of five students under the guidance of a faculty advisor. All prototype results are showcased at the Mechanical Expo 2024, chaired by Mr. Ade Irwan, S.T., M.T.
Here are the titles of the prototype designs featured in this year’s Expo:
- Design of a Biogas Digester as a Substitute for Fossil Fuels with a 150L Capacity
- Peanut Grinding Machine
- Chainlink Fencing Machine
- Design of a Gamma-Type Stirling Engine with a 20cc Capacity Using Ethanol Fuel
- Beverage Can Waste Compactor Machine
- Design and Fabrication of a Torsional Vibration Tester
- Design and Fabrication of a Grass Cutter Using Liquified Petroleum Gas Fuel
- 3-Axis CNC Router with Mach3 Controller
- Aquarium Design with Microhydro Generator
- Development of an Autonomous Electric Car System Using EfficientNet-B5 Model and Grid-Solar Cell-Based Charging System
- Metallographic Polisher
- Design of an Acrylic Glove Box for Storing Metal Powder
- High-Energy Ball Milling Machine for Refining Silica Sand into Nano Silica Powder
- Laboratory-Scale Wastewater Treatment Installation
- Design of a Heat Pump Clothes Dryer with a 5kg Capacity
- Plastic Bottle Shredder Machine
- Potato Slicing Machine
This program highlights innovative student projects and fosters collaboration among students and faculty, driving advancements in mechanical engineering research and design at Universitas Sumatera Utara.
