Prof. Johannes Tarigan, a senior lecturer from the Department of Civil Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), was invited to deliver a guest lecture at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang, on July 9, 2018. The lecture, aimed at postgraduate (Master's and Doctoral) students, carried the theme "Application of Space Truss Element in the Design of Coal Yard Dome Construction." During the session, Prof. Tarigan elaborated on the use of space truss structures as a reliable and efficient solution for large-scale dome construction, especially for industrial purposes such as coal storage facilities.
This academic engagement served as a part of the broader effort to strengthen international collaboration between USU and USM. Beyond sharing technical insights, the event helped build academic rapport and opened avenues for future research collaborations and academic exchanges in the field of civil engineering. It also underlined both institutions’ commitment to contributing to the advancement of knowledge and infrastructure design in Southeast Asia.
