Three students of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) achieved an outstanding accomplishment by winning Third Place at the national level and receiving an Honorable Mention as Best Poster in the Student Scientific Paper Competition category at the OLRAIT Competition 2026. The competition was organized by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) of Medan State Polytechnic (Polmed) on September 4, 2026.

The achievement was earned through a scientific paper entitled “HARMONI: An Eco-Friendly, Energy-Independent Bus Stop with Information Facilities to Support the Green Economy Horizon in Medan City,” which presents an environmentally friendly bus stop innovation powered by new and renewable energy (NRE).

The USU student team consisted of Muhammad Farhannadwiy Sinaga (Student ID Number 250404026) as team leader, together with Nazwa Aqilla Auriel (Student ID Number 250404043) and Nisyah Humairah Rahmad (Student ID Number 250404073). The scientific paper was prepared under the supervision of Dr. Ir. Rahmi Karolina, S.T., M.T., IPM., GP.

Through the HARMONI concept, the team developed a bus stop design that serves not only as a place for waiting for public transportation but is also designed to utilize solar energy as an independent power source and provide information facilities for the public. This innovation represents an effort to integrate renewable energy technology with the needs of more environmentally friendly public facilities.

The HARMONI concept is expected to support the utilization of new and renewable energy, raise public awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability, and encourage the implementation of green economy principles in Medan City. The idea also demonstrates how student innovation can contribute to addressing urban development challenges through technology-oriented approaches to sustainability.

Winning Third Place nationally and receiving the Honorable Mention as Best Poster award recognizes the creativity, academic capabilities, and innovation of USU students in developing solutions that address community needs.

This achievement is expected to motivate other students to continue producing creative work, developing innovative research, and participating in academic competitions at both national and international levels. Through their innovations, USU students are expected to contribute to sustainable development and a more environmentally friendly future.
