Two students of the Undergraduate Program in Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, Anisrina Shofi and Ezra Aulia Rahma Srg., carried out practical training at PT Bridgestone Sumatera Rubber Estate, Jl. Dolok Merangir No. 4, Dolok Batu Nanggar District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra. The activity took place from December 29, 2025, to January 28, 2026.
During the practical training, the students conducted learning visits to several factory lines, ranging from raw materials, quality control, and processing to utilities. Each section provided an overview of the different functions and workflows that support the company’s operational processes.
In the quality control section, the students gained experience assisting with testing activities within a limited scope. In the processing line, the students studied product processing and distribution flows, thereby gaining an understanding of the relationship between production processes and product handling after processing.
In the utilities section, the learning covered waste discharge flow rates and the electrical utilities used to support factory activities. The series of practical training activities broadened the students’ knowledge of process management and supporting industrial facilities without making claims regarding performance or efficiency improvements that were not measured as part of the activity.
This activity primarily supports SDG 4—Quality Education through learning based on industrial experience. SDG 9—Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure is relevant through the understanding of industrial processes, quality control, and utilities, while SDG 12—Responsible Consumption and Production is related to learning about waste discharge flows and process management.
