Medan, July 21, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), received a courtesy visit to discuss a proposed Internship Program in collaboration with PT Regal Springs Indonesia.
The meeting was welcomed by Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization; Lenny Anggrina, S.Sos., Head of the Subdivision for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization; Sri Fitriani Panggabean, Head of the Subdivision for Student Affairs and Alumni; and Dr. Ir. Andri Nasution, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Secretary of the Undergraduate Industrial Engineering Study Program.
The proposed internship program includes students from the Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Industrial Engineering study programs, reflecting opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration in response to the workforce needs identified by the industry partner.
The meeting served as an initial discussion to explore opportunities for enhancing students' competencies through practical experience in an industrial environment. The collaboration framework, number of participants, implementation schedule, and operational mechanisms remain subject to further discussion; therefore, the internship program has not yet been formally agreed upon or implemented.
This initiative primarily supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by promoting experiential learning and strengthening students' professional readiness. The prospective collaboration between the university and industry also contributes to SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by fostering institutional cooperation and knowledge exchange.
The Faculty of Engineering, USU, remains committed to strengthening partnerships with industry to support education that is relevant and responsive to professional needs. The development of this internship collaboration is expected to progress through measurable and well-planned initiatives that benefit students, the faculty, and its industry partners.
