The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in the Orientation Program for Department Chairs and Study Program Secretaries, held on July 17, 18, and 20, 2026, at the Digital Learning Center Building.

The orientation featured an opening address by the Rector of USU on "Strengthening Study Programs in the Rector's 2026–2031 Priority Programs," followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion with the Rector. The program also included presentations by Prof. Dr. Poppy Anjelisa Zaitun Hasibuan, S.Si., M.Si., Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Alumni; Dr. Muhammad Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.SP., Vice Rector II for Human Resources, Finance, and Information Systems; Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector III for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation; Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, S.T., MM.IT., Vice Rector IV for Planning, Infrastructure, and Business; and concluded with remarks by Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., University Secretary.

The orientation was designed to establish a shared framework of understanding among academic unit leaders. It aimed to strengthen participants' understanding of leadership roles, policy coordination, and study program management, while recognizing that effective implementation will require follow-up actions within each academic unit.

The program supports SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions) by strengthening institutional governance and academic leadership capacity. It also contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education), as effective study program management has the potential to enhance the quality of higher education.
