Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) participated in the 2026 National Symposium held as part of the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (KSTI) 2026, which took place from June 26–28, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Jakarta.

The USU delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Muryanto Amin, S.Sos., M.Si., Rector of USU, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Drs. Budi Agustono, M.S., Chair of the Academic Senate; Prof. Dr. Tamrin, M.Sc., Secretary of the Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Eng. Himsar Ambarita, S.T., M.T., Vice Rector for Partnerships and Internationalization; Dr. Muhammad Anggia Muchtar, S.T., M.M.IT., Vice Rector for Planning, Infrastructure, and Business; Ir. Ikhsan Siregar, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., University Secretary; as well as the deans of various faculties, including Prof. Dr. Ir. Renita Manurung, M.T., Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

Also in attendance was Prof. Dr. Ir. Fahmi, S.T., M.Sc., IPU., a faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering USU and a member of the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek). The USU delegation also included Prof. Dr. dr. Elmeida Effendy, M.Ked., Sp.K.J., Subsp. B.P.(K)., Director of Public Relations, Promotion, and Protocol.

Carrying the theme "Strategies for Indonesia's Economic Self-Reliance and Prosperity," the symposium explored a wide range of strategic issues, including economic development, food security, energy, industrial downstreaming, maritime affairs, and education. The forum also served as a platform for academics, government representatives, and industry leaders to formulate science-based recommendations that support Indonesia's national development agenda.

USU's participation reaffirmed the university's commitment to advancing research-driven innovation and evidence-based solutions that contribute to a more inclusive, competitive, and sustainable Indonesia.
