The Universitas Sumatera Utara signed a memorandum of understanding with Institut Francais d'Indonesie, which took place on Thursday (23/06/16) at the BPA USU building, Padang Bulan Campus.

Rector of the Universitas Sumatera Utara Prof. Dr. Runtung, S.H., M.Hum., who was accompanied by USU Secretary Prof. Gontar Siregar, Vice Rector II Dr. Fidel Ganis Siregar, Head of USU International Affairs Office Dr. Esther Nababan, Head of USU Language Center Prof. T. Silvana Sinar, Dean of Faculty of Arts Dr. Budi Agustono, and Dean of Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Dr. Kerista Sebayang, welcomed the bond of cooperation and expressed gratitude for the opening of opportunities for cooperation with Alianza Francais Medan.

He said that USU's cooperation with Institut Francais d'Indonesie through Alianza Francais Medan had taken place during the previous Rector's term. The cooperation, he said, was to open Level A1 and Level A2 French classes. USU also has a French shop which was inaugurated in 2014 and is located at the USU Language Center. "This year there are also two teaching staff who continue their doctoral studies in France through the LPDP scholarship. The two persons are Mrs. Vivi who continues her doctoral studies at the University de Poiter, and Mrs. Joiverdia who continues her doctoral studies at one of the universities in France," said the Rector.

The Rector hopes that this collaboration can continue in the future with a wider and more varied program, and more USU teaching staff will continue their doctoral studies in France. Meanwhile, Antoine Devencoux du Buysson, attaché of the French Embassy in Indonesia, who was accompanied by Thomas Simoes (Director of Alianza Francais Medan), Pogy Kurniawan (President of Alianza Francais Medan), Debbie Rosaline (Campus France), and Irma Tobing (Responsible Pedagogic), expressed his gratitude for the implementation of the collaboration.

He mentioned that cooperation with USU is very important where both institutions benefit. He admitted that the cooperation that has been going on so far has been going well, such as French classes and the existence of French Stalls. "I also hope that this MoU will open up more opportunities for both parties to develop cooperation programs in a broader direction," Antoine concluded.
