The Chemical Engineering Program of USU enhances quality through the IABEE Document Refinement Workshop, supporting international accreditation. The event focused on assessment rubrics and digital evaluation systems aligned with IABEE standards.
Accreditation is an evaluation activity conducted to determine the eligibility of academic programs in higher education institutions based on predetermined criteria. The Bachelor’s Degree Program in Chemical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has obtained Provisional Accreditation status with Accreditation Certificate No. 00020.P, issued on December 11, 2018, by the Indonesian Accreditation Board of Engineering Education (IABEE). IABEE is an international accreditation body based in Indonesia that is in the process of becoming a permanent member of the Washington Accord, a global benchmark for engineering program accreditation.
The IABEE Document Refinement Workshop for the Chemical Engineering Department was held on Thursday, March 18, 2021. The event began with an opening by the MC, followed by welcoming remarks from the Head of the Chemical Engineering Department, Ir. Maya Sarah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., IPM., and the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Seri Maulina, M.Sc., Ph.D.
The workshop focused on preparing materials, assessments, and rubrics for even-semester courses. The main agenda included delivering materials, developing assessment rubrics, and implementing a rubric-based digital assessment system, presented by the speaker, Miftahul Fauziah, S.T., M.T., Ph.D.
During the practical session, moderated by Prof. Dr. Halimatuddahliana, S.T., M.Sc., participants successfully completed three assessment rubrics for even-semester courses: Transport Phenomena, Separation Processes II, and Introduction to Bioprocess. These rubrics will be further developed into Semester Learning Plans (RPS) and Assessment Plans (RAP). The goal is for participants to create RPS and RAP documents that include performance indicators and learning achievement parameters (CPL and CPMK), along with evaluation and assessment methods aligned with university and IABEE standards. This initiative is expected to enhance the quality of the IABEE documents.
At the end of the workshop, the Vice Rector I of USU, Dr. Edy Ikhsan, S.H., M.Hum., joined the event online to present a certificate to the speaker and deliver a closing speech. He expressed his full support for the Chemical Engineering Department in achieving General Accreditation status. The event concluded at 4:00 PM WIB.
