The USU Faculty of Engineering community service team implemented Yanysis technology in Lubuk Cuik Village, Batu Bara, to produce organic fertilizer and strengthen cooperative management. This program helps chili farmers reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers while improving digital marketing skills through the Berkah Abadi Jaya Cooperative.
The Community Service (PkM) team from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) successfully assisted chili farmers in Lubuk Cuik Village, Lima Puluh Pesisir District, Batu Bara Regency, in overcoming issues related to the high cost of chemical fertilizers and declining soil fertility. This was achieved through a program titled “Implementation of Yanysis Technology for Organic Fertilizer Production and Marketing Management Improvement at Berkah Abadi Jaya Cooperative.”
This activity included training in the production of solid and liquid organic fertilizers, operation of compost shredding machines, and financial and digital marketing training for members of the Berkah Abadi Jaya (BAJA) Cooperative. As a result, cooperative members are now capable of independently producing organic fertilizers and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Throughout the program, the team provided technical training on fertilizer production using Yanysis technology, cooperative business management workshops, product branding strategies, and the use of social media and digital marketplaces to promote agricultural products.
The program’s objectives were divided into two parts:
The general objective was to provide solutions to problems faced by the community partners based on situational analysis by applying scientific and technological results from the PkM research team. The specific objective was to produce solid and liquid organic fertilizers (POC) to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers in chili production centers, which can harm terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
Through this technology implementation, land conservation efforts in chili farming centers are expected to increase red chili production in Lubuk Cuik Village. Furthermore, the program aims to strengthen financial management within the Berkah Abadi Jaya Cooperative, thereby enhancing member and stakeholder trust, and serving as a model for appropriate technology application and agribusiness management improvement at the village level.
