Undergraduate Program in Architecture

The Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) Undergraduate Program in Architecture has been established since 1991, making it a relatively new study program when compared to other study programs at USU. The curriculum combines art, science and engineering to design and build physical environments that involve creating beautiful, functional and sustainable spaces for people to live, work and play. From building houses to designing iconic buildings, architecture is about creating the world around us.

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Welcome to the website of the Undergraduate Program in Architecture!

The Undergraduate Program in Architecture is one of the study programs at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara, which aims to educate prospective architects who are experts in designing the built environment in accordance with global developments, with a concern for local potential and wisdom. Education conducted at USU Architecture is oriented towards designing the built environment that is responsive to the needs of society and environmental sustainability. The learning process is based on Architecture design studio activities that explore creativity and sensitivity, with intensive "one-to-one tutorials," study surveys, discussions, and graphic, cinematographic, verbal, and oral presentations. Established in 1991, the USU Department of Architecture Study Program achieved accreditation in 2011 and managed to maintain the predicate by obtaining an 'Excellent' accreditation in 2022. It is pioneering to be internationally accredited. Currently, more than 1000 alumni have graduated, and they are active as architects and experts in other construction industries, bureaucrats, and entrepreneurs on a regional, national, and international scale. The Department of Architecture, with its competent teaching staff, is dedicated to making valuable contributions to the community and advancing the field of architecture and urban planning. The department has expertise in various areas, including Architectural Design, Architectural Theory, Building Technology, Architecture and Society, Architectural Computing, and Urban and Settlement.
