Medan, August 20, 2026 — The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), through the Master’s Program in Architecture and the Doctoral Program in Architecture and Urban Studies, together with the Center of Excellence for Green Buildings and Urban Environmental Quality and the Urban Morphology and Society Scientific Cluster, held a discussion entitled “Potential Development of Conservation Values of Deli Sultanate Heritage Buildings” at the FT USU Meeting Room.

The discussion was opened by Zaid Perdana Nasution, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, Cooperation, and Internationalization of FT USU. The forum featured Tengku Mahmud Aria Lamantjiji, S.T., M.T., Sultan of Deli XIV; Johannes Widodo from the National University of Singapore; and Isnen Fitri, S.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., an architecture lecturer at USU and heritage building expert.

The activity brought together academics, practitioners, and observers of heritage buildings and Malay culture. Through a cross-perspective discussion, participants shared various insights on the sustainability of Maimun Palace as an important part of the heritage of the Deli Sultanate.

The insights gathered through the discussion constitute an initial output that can support further studies and the development of conservation values for Maimun Palace. The forum also served as a platform for knowledge exchange and opened opportunities to develop a more collaborative approach to heritage conservation.
