The Community Service Team from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), successfully implemented a technological innovation in the form of an automatic soybean washing machine to improve productivity and welfare of small and medium-scale tempe business owners in Limau Mungkur Village, Binjai Barat.
This innovation aims to increase the efficiency of the soybean washing process so that productivity and tempe quality can be improved.
The team leader, Dr. Ir. Anizar, M.Kes., IPU, stated, “The automatic washing machine helps tempe producers clean soybeans quickly and evenly, making the production process more efficient and hygienic.”
The use of this machine is designed to accelerate the soybean washing process, which was previously done manually and took a long time. With an automated system, SMEs can increase productivity while maintaining the quality of soybeans as the main raw material for tempe production.

In addition to providing the machine, the team also conducted business management training that included basic financial recording, cost of goods sold calculation, and working capital management strategies to help partners manage their finances more effectively.
This program is expected to improve the welfare of small business owners while supporting the development of the local tempe industry.
