The Undergraduate Program in Architecture and the Professional Program in Architecture at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Sumatera Utara (FT USU), have received International Accreditation from the Korean Architectural Accrediting Board (KAAB). The accreditation is valid for three years, from July 31, 2026, to July 30, 2029.
This achievement was obtained through a comprehensive accreditation process. The assessment included an extensive document review, an on-site accreditation visit conducted from April 19–22, 2026, and an evaluation of various aspects of architectural education delivery.
The scope of the evaluation covered the program curriculum, teaching and learning processes, academic resources, governance, and internal quality assurance systems. This scope demonstrates that the accreditation assessed not only academic documentation but also the consistency of program implementation and management.
The KAAB accreditation confirms that the architectural education provided by FT USU meets the international quality standards established by the accrediting body. This recognition further strengthens the program’s commitment to producing competent, professional architects with global competitiveness.
This achievement primarily supports SDG 4: Quality Education through the enhancement of higher education quality and recognition of international learning standards. It also contributes to SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth by supporting graduates’ professional readiness, as well as SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions through strengthened governance and internal quality assurance systems.
FT USU is committed to maintaining and continuously improving the quality of architectural education through ongoing evaluation, curriculum enhancement, improved learning quality, and accountable academic governance. This international accreditation serves as a foundation for further developing architectural education that remains relevant to professional needs and global developments.
