Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering

The Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering at Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) is a study program that explores the application of physical principles for the analysis, design, manufacture and maintenance of mechanical systems. This study program aims to train students in developing professional attitudes and skills in the field of Mechanical Engineering, in order to be able to adapt and follow the development of new science and technology. Students will study energy conversion focused on machines such as combustion motors, thermal systems, and fluid machines.

Our vision is to become an internationally competitive Mechanical Engineering study program with academic excellence rooted in local wealth. We invite you to join the Universitas Sumatera Utara Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering and start exploring a deep understanding of the scientific field of mechanical engineering. Graduates of this program will hold a Bachelor of Engineering (S.T) degree, ready to contribute to industry and technological developments in the future.

History

1962

The head of the faculty/university assigned several people to work on developing and expanding the education system at the USU Faculty of Engineering. The USU Faculty of Engineering was established in 1959 with a decree of the Minister of Education, Teaching and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 83303/S dated August 26, 1959. The Secretary of the Faculty, Prof. A. T. Barus, M.Sc., as the Head of the Faculty of Engineering, issued a decree and, at the same time, formed a Preparation Team for the Opening of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at the USU Faculty of Engineering.

1970

The Mechanical Engineering Study Program first graduated alumni with the title of Engineer (Insinyur).

1970 - 1980

Since its opening until the early 80s, the curriculum applied in the Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering still uses a level system.

1980

The curriculum with the Credit Hours (Credit Hours) system began to be implemented.

2006

The competency-based curriculum was implemented.

2011

The review of the 2006 curriculum begins with determining the formulation of the profile and competencies of the study program consisting of PLTM-1, PLTM-2, and PLTM-3. Graduate competencies consist of main, supporting, and other competencies in accordance with regulations from the Decree of the Minister of the Republic of Indonesia No.045/U/2002 concerning the Core Curriculum of Higher Education Article 5 that the main competency component of the curriculum (40-80)%, the curriculum of the Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering consists of 76.4% main competencies.
