MEDAN-USU: Following the success of the Horas Team in creating an energy-efficient car, Electrical Engineering students of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) have once again innovated. They developed second-generation electric cars named Lamringan Proto and Lamjingar Urban. These two models were built by the students of the Asatama Team USU. Both cars are planned to compete in the upcoming Energy Marathon Challenge (IEMC) in Malang in two different categories.
The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, USU, Prof. Bustami Syam, during the launch of the two electric cars on Saturday (October 11, 2015), explained that these cars were produced by the Asatama Team under the Department of Electrical Engineering. “In the Faculty of Engineering, we have two teams: the Horas Team, which creates energy-efficient cars, and the Asatama Team, which develops electric cars. Last year, Asatama participated in a similar contest but only managed to secure a spot in the top five,” he said. He expressed hope that in this second participation, the Asatama Team could achieve optimal results. “We hope for the best. Thank you to the sponsors and alumni who have contributed significantly,” he added.
The Asatama Team Manager, Rio Richard Simanjuntak, stated that for this national event, the team would compete with Lamringan Proto in the Prototype Class, while Lamjingar Urban would compete in the Urban Concept Class. “We have addressed the weaknesses of the first-generation cars and conducted research to develop vehicles with better efficiency,” he said.
He added that the electric cars are entirely emission-free. Both cars were then tested at USU. During the trials, both cars performed well and are 100% ready to compete in the IEMC in Malang.
